France is still a favourite for Britons wishing to buy abroad
France remains one of the top locations for Britons buying property abroad, a currency specialist recently confirmed.
According to The Telegraph, a report from HiFX, a foreign exchange company, analysed property data from the last nine years to find out British buyers’ overseas “dream home” destinations. It showed that France and Spain were the most sought after, with the two countries accounted for around 75% of all buyers’ enquiries.
The data also showed that Switzerland’s popularity is increasing, and that interest in buying in the US and Canada is on the rise. Italy, on the other hand has seen enquiries, and its popularity, decline.
Mark Bodega, a director of HiFX, said that the number of buyers looking for ski properties is also increasing with Morzine and Chamonix still two of the most coveted Alpine locations.
“With interest rates so low in France at the moment and sterling seeing a boost against the euro, it is no wonder that interest in French property from foreign buyers is on the rise,” said Tim Swannie, director of Home Hunts. “As well being as a good investment opportunity, France has everything to offer: quality of life, culture, gastronomy, long, hot summers, and quick and easy access to and from the UK. Now the economy is recovering Home Hunts has seen a surge of interest from British buyers in French property, and it is one that is continuing to grow.”
France is also a favourite with British retirees wishing to move abroad, as a recent survey by MGM Advantage showed, and earlier this year Home Hunts’ INside France report revealed that the most popular locations in France are: Paris, the South West, the Alps, Languedoc, Provence and the Riviera.
